Lifeguard Training Course

This American Red Cross course is designed for entry-level participants that wish to lifeguard at aquatic facilities with a maximum water depth of 5 feet.
What You’ll Learn
- The knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies in shallow water up to 5 feet deep
- Provide care for breathing emergencies
- Provide care for cardiac emergencies
- Provide care for injuries or sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over

Prerequisites
Basic Requirements:
- Minimum age: 15 years old
- Swim 100 yards continuously
- Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs
Complete a timed event (maximum time: 50 seconds):
- Start in the water
- Swim 20 yards
- Submerge to a depth of 4-5 feet
- Retrieve a 10-pound object
- Return to the surface of the water
- With both hands holding the object, walk or swim on your back 20 yards to return to the starting point
- Exit the water without using the steps or the ladder
