I just wanted to personally thank the management & staff at Stewie the Duck for how a situation was handled yesterday. My daughter Brielle was having a lot of anxiety regarding coming to swim and after 3 weeks of her crying & telling me she didn’t want to go. I called to freeze my account so she could take a break. After speaking with Miryam, she asked me questions and after learning it was because she was anxious, she asked if I’d be comfortable with the general manager giving me a call to talk through some strategies that we could try. Shortly after, Laurie called and spent 20 minutes on the phone with me reassuring me this was completely normal and strongly urged me to trust her and her team to try some new strategies in her lesson (yesterday at 5) before deciding to quit. I convinced Brielle to get in her swimsuit, and Heidi greeted us immediately after walking in, gave 1 on 1 attention to my kids and personally walked Brielle into the class and stayed with her until she was comfortable. I watched with tears in my eyes at how proud I was of Brielle, but also just so grateful for the entire team at Stewie the Duck who was willing to put so much effort and attention into making Brielle feel comfortable, loved and most importantly safe.

This picture I took before class started. You can see in Brielle’s face her hesitation to start the lesson, and Heidi getting on the floor and really showing her compassion and reassuring her it will be ok.

Brielle left the class smiling and feeling so proud of herself, and the last thing she said before going to bed was that she wants to go back to swim tomorrow. She told me in the morning she’s so excited for next week and can’t wait to walk in and strut her stuff 🙂 (her exact words).

I have never ever felt such a true partnership and commitment from a team of people anywhere in my life, and really wanted to let the entire group know how truly grateful my husband and I are Miryam, Laurie, Heidi, Izzy and Ari… I was quick to pull the plug and SO glad we didn’t!

My little girl loves playing in the water. When she was a toddler, we strapped her in her “Puddle Jumper” and she was off (with supervision of course😊). One day, something changed, I am not quite sure what changed, but Bevin did not want to go in the water. She would wear her vest but there was no going in. Whenever we would try, she would end up screaming and usually lying on the ground. You see, Bevin is not a “neuro-typical” child, and different things can cause her to become dysregulated; easily frustrated by small things. Swimming became one of those things. She loved playing in the water, so I needed to get her back in. We started private lessons at Stewie the Duck Swim School. From her first day of just sitting on the step, looking at the water waving her finger “no”, to today, my little girl is back in the water, not just in, but jumping in! Going underwater! SWIMMING (check out the video!) And doing it with a SMILE!

This was made possible not just by a swim teacher, but by a teacher who cares about her student. Who took the time to understand my little girl and build a relationship with her, a friendship, built on trust, because that is what Bevin needed. The whole staff there is amazing. I see them all, every week, teaching children of all ages, a life skill. The aura of the facility is so welcoming. I love it there, but most importantly, Bevin loves it there.❤️

Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
